Jimena de La Frontera

The House

A Typical Adalucian Pueblo Blanco

General Description

Jimena de la Frontera is a typical ‘reconquest’ village. The words ‘de la Frontera’ indicate that it was on the border between Moorish occupied Spain and the invading Christians. It is a fine example of an Andalucian ‘white village’ with a castle dominating the town.

Jimena de la Frontera occupies a steep hill, Mount St. Christobal, on a ridge between the rivers Hozgarganta and Guadiaro.
The town is at a height of 203 metres.

How to get there from Malaga Airport.

When leaving Malaga Airport follow the signs for Algeciras and Cadiz.

The first route (recommended) is to take the new motorway in the direction of ALGECIRAS. This is a new pay road (“Péage”) and it is very quick and not very crowded. Approx cost of tolls will be 12€, so try to have some small (10€ or 20€ notes or coins)

NB If you accidentally come off the Toll road, don’t worry, just join the N340 E7 towards Algerciras and Cadiz, as the roads meet at the same roundabout as the Toll Road exit.

Exit at junction 133 TORREGUARDIARO, (about 20 km after Estepona). This will bring you onto a roundabout, where you turn right and follow the signs for SAN ENRIQUE or SAN MARTIN.

Head for San Martin

The second route is to follow the old E7 N-340 road, also in the direction of Algeciras, then San Enrique.

When you reach San Martin continue through the town. The road bends to the left, and there is a sign for Jimena.

Follow this road which passes through orange groves until you reach the junction with the main road.

At this junction follow the turn right in the direction of Jimena de la Frontera on the A-405 road.

Approximately 18km later you will enter Estacion de Jimena de la Frontera, on your right hand side you will see a CEPSA/ELF petrol station. Continue through Estacion and after approximately 1KM you will see the turning signposted Jimena on your left. Drive up the hill into the town centre where there is a car park.
